In a 30 second commercial, “Lost and Found”, by State Farm featuring Stephen Curry, the star player for the Golden State Warriors who led the Warriors to victory in the 2015 NBA Finals, the insurance company starts out stating that it assists Sebastian Curry and his twin brother Stephen Curry. Special agent Sebastian Curry is a professor and Stephen Curry is shown as an NBA player making an assist and referred to as “the smartest assistor” around. Stephen transforms into a business man dressed in a business suit at his desk and then in his business casual attire as he walks out on the deck where his assistance is needed with a calamity. Stephen has a Master’s in Disasters and a PhD in Calamity. Once at the dock, Stephen overlooks the scene and assures the man at the dock that he will solve the problem. Stephen then makes another transformation. He strips off his business casual attire to reveal his NBA diving suit. Stephen dives into the water, finds the problem, returns above water and announces that the problem is solved.
Dress For Success
In Jay Heinrich's book, "Thank You For Arguing", he states that decorum is "argument by character that starts with your audiences love." In simpler words it means to "fit in" with the people around you. State Farm uses this tool in their commercial by using star point guard, Stephen Curry, who is to assisting a customer in his crisis. Curry is usually dressed in a tuxedo to attend business meetings. This task however requires him to dive under water, so Curry rips off his tux and under it he has on a diving suit. He is now dressed and suitable to fulfill his task.
Look Good, Sell Good
Stephen Curry is passionate on and off the court. Passion is a strong emotion for something that is hard to control. He cares for the game of basketball and puts so much time into film, workouts, practice, and bonding with teammates. His passion for the game is what most of his fans like about him because it shows a large amount of time and endless effort to be one of the best there is. He humbles himself and often thanks God for allowing him the chance over and over again to prove himself to those who doubts him. In "Thank you for Arguing", Heinrich states “Your values are either met or abused.” Values are not necessarily morals, but what is right from your perspective. Curry has all the characteristics of a good representative for State Farm. Curry values the game of basketball like State Farm values their customers.
The Choice Is Yours
State Farm uses Stephen Curry to attract and persuade his fans to buy their insurance. People view Stephen Curry as the best and State Farm feel they are the better choice while shopping for insurance. In Jay Heinrich's book, "Thank You For Arguing", he states that "the most productive arguments use choice as their central issue.” In the commercial, choice allows the customers to have full control. You tell them your problem and State Farm is there to assist in any way possible.
My Outlook
I feel State farm is a great choice for insurance. Their commercial shows that they will go out the way and do something that others would not do. I think it is safe to say that two things people want in life is to be heard and to have things done willingly.
